Hello again,
As promised, here is my first art related post.
As the weather gets warmer (slowly), the signs of spring start to pop up all around and with the sun shining, birds chirping, getting to go outside, I couldn't help but feel an urge to try something new. While rummaging through a drawer in my office, I found an old illustration I did about four years ago (sheesh) and decided to transform it into something new. I love the tangible unique look of cut paper designs and felt inspired to use this technique to bring new life to this old sketch. (the illustration seemed appropriate and "springy") Here is what the old illustration looked like:
I used to dabble with acrylic and ink which was used to create this original piece. Maybe it's been the years without sun or the accidental splotch of india ink on this canvas, but when I saw this again, I thought, "Well these colors are pretty dull." It felt a little pale and lost. My goal was to jazz up the colors and help those hummingbirds pop. So, I sketched out my pieces...
Realizing I wanted to pump up the color, I knew the paper supply I had laying around the house wouldn't really fit the bill. And since new spring beginnings is the theme, I took the 60 degree weather as an opportunity to roll down the windows and get out to Michaels for some new supplies. Serendipitously, all cardstock was on sale at the craft store! A lovely sign from the universe. After singing my lungs out on the way home, I sprawled the rainbow of fresh paper across my living room floor and got to work. I think for my first paper illustration, it came out rather nice. Hopefully, after practicing my techniques, this spring will bring a revival of the art I enjoy creating. The goal is to re-open my etsy store with something new...but in the mean time, enjoy!
